Rainy Day Fun: Activities and Gear to Keep Kids Dry and Happy

Build a Blanket Fort: Who doesn't love to make (and play in) a fort? A secret hideout is created with pillows, blankets and chairs gathered together. You can even run some string lights or props around when your fort is ready to give it that magical feel. It is a perfect place to read stories or play games. 

Rainy Day Fun: A rainy day provides an opportunity to play some fun board games! An evening of classic Candy Land, Sorry and Monopoly can provide hours worth of entertainment. Or try a new-to-you game together as a family, such as Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride. 

Make Treats: Baking is a great indoor activity also! Bake tasty cookies, cupcakes or muffins. Your kiddos will have fun measuring and mixing, too, as well as reaping the rewards of a delicious dessert! Baking not only is fun, but it also creates memories as sweet as the treats you are enjoying. 

Read a Book: There is something so special about snuggling with your favourite book on a rainy day. Next you can switch up the bed time routine by taking turns reading your favorite stories aloud or asking for a book of THEIR choice to be read. This can encourage them to be more imaginative and fall in love with reading. 

Kids have lots of energy, so why not having a dance party. Play some good music and let kids dance around. Especially, when they are supervised inside the house dancing is a fantastic avenue to relieve some of that energy!

Create Rain Art: Another idea for an hour of fun is to break out the colored chalks and draw on a table or sidewalk in your front yard. If it rains, mix the rain with chalk for a cool pattern. You can explain to them how the rain changes all colors and patterns. 

A fun rainy day is to splash through the puddles! If you want to make it even more entertaining, have a contest for the biggest splash when they jump in. 

Create a mud kitchen: Pots and pans, sticks and stones make a DIY mud kitchen. My children love to play with mud, so they get a kick out of making their own mud pies and bakes.
